Scholarship Fund

The World Organization for Positive Action will begin their first scholarship program which is set to begin on October 10, 2009. WOPA will be providing a scholarship in the amount of $500.00 to a student who will attend college in Summer or Fall of 2010.

Questions and Answers About the Program

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

  • Applicants must be high school seniors or undergraduate students already enrolled in college.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale through Fall 2009.
  • Applicants must be planning to attend college as a full-time student.
  • Applicants must be residents of New Jersey.
  • Applicants may not be members or family members of WOPA.

When does the program start?

The applications will be available October 10, 2009. Interested applicants will be able to download an application from this page.

When is the deadline for submission of materials?

All materials must be submitted to WOPA with a postmark no later than March 31, 2010. All materials must be mailed in ONE envelope. Materials should be sent to 227 Riverdale Road, Pompton Lakes, NJ 07442.

What constitutes a complete application packet?

  1. A completed APPLICATION.
  2. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT with grades and cumulative GPA posted through Fall 2009.
  3. SAT or ACT scores (High school seniors only).
  4. 2 Signed LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION from teacher, professor or employer. Letters should be sealed and signed across the fold.
  5. Signed PERSONAL STATEMENT regarding importance of scholarship, college and/or career plans.
  6. LIST OF ACADEMIC HONORS, LEADERSHIP POSITIONS, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.
  7. Signed copy of Federal Tax Form 1040 (pages one and two only) and W-2 forms for both parents (if applicable) for the latest year these forms were filed.

What is the value of the scholarship award?

One new scholarship in an amount of up to $500 will be awarded annually. This scholarship will be based upon academics and financial need. The award will be applied to tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

What schools may I attend?

You must be a full-time student enrolled at any accredited public or private, two-year or four-year college, university or technical school located in the United States.

How are winners selected?

Scholarship Selection Committee considers academic merit, need, and potential to succeed in the student's chosen educational field.

How will I be notified if I am chosen as a recipient?

All applicants will be notified by mail of the decisions of the committee.  

Is this scholarship renewable?

Unfortunately this scholarship is only a one time scholarship and may not be renewed.
